Victoria is 'the most shambolic, appallingly governed' state in Australia: Bolt
Victoria is governed appallingly and although it likes to think of itself as the most sophisticated state in the country, it’s now looking like the most shambolic, according to Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
Mr Bolt said “819 people died just in that one state. 90 per cent of all virus deaths in this country".
“No one has more lessons to learn than Victoria.
“Victoria has always had this image of being a bit smoother, more efficient, less corrupt than other states. Certainly, more than New South Wales and Queensland. But, boy, has Victoria had a shock.
“It couldn't run quarantine hotels properly. It couldn't do contact tracing properly. Still can't.”
Mr Bolt said adding to the existing failures in Victoria was a scandal involving alleged corruption in Victoria's train system.
V/Line Chief Executive James Pinder and Metro Trains head of fleet operations Peter Bollas were sacked following allegations they received tens of thousands of dollars in cash kickbacks for awarding a cleaning contract to a company to sanitise Melbourne’s trains during the height of the pandemic.
The allegations – aired during an IBAC hearing as part of the corruption watchdog’s investigation into instances of misconduct in Melbourne’s rail network – said Transclean was cutting corners and not doing the job properly.
“And then there was Victoria's shambolic contact tracing. At first, using pen, paper and fax machines, and even now not having a widespread use of a briliiant new tracing system - the QR code system used in other states, like NSW,” Mr Bolt said.
“Add to that the multicultural madness in Victoria, the trouble of pushing out health messages when so many people speak poor English.
“Put it all together - and can you be surprised that Victoria is the state that got smashed by this virus.
“This is a state that likes to think it's the most sophisticated.
"It's now looking like the most shambolic. Governed appallingly.”
