Exploring the Historic Seattle Cascade Mine

This mine was worked primarily in 1908 and 1909. A 1,100 foot long haulage adit was driven in hopes of intersecting the vein at depth. The discovery adit is located high up on the mountain and is nearly impossible to reach. The haulage tunnel was never completed and the mine never intersected the primary vein.

The mine produced silver from a secondary vein which the haulage adit followed. However it is unlikely that this mine ever came close to profiting.

A 1,100 foot long aerial tramway transported the ore from the main tunnel to an ore bin down below near the road. Remnants of the tramway can still be seen, but the tram towers are no longer standing.

It appeared that someone had attempted to rework the mine more recently, as there was a 1950's - 1960's era compressor tank inside of the mine.

Today the mine is idle and is inches away from being completely sealed off at the portal. Luckily, I was able to get out to this remote site to fully document it so its history will not be lost.
