Texto 2020 interview with Shaka Maidoh of the collective Art Comes First

While many are familiar with Londoners Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh for their distinctive look and street style cred, their cultural relevance goes far deeper than the extensive online documentation of their slick sartorial expression. As the founders of the collective Art Comes First, they bring a fresh approach to the international creative landscape with their multidisciplinary endeavors in fashion and design, curating, lecturing, filmmaking, art direction, conceptual installations and DJing. The manifesto “art comes first” is a call to arms for a subcultural movement that they hope will inspire creatives around the world to develop their own vision of what art means to them.

TEXTO 2020 was our first global gathering honouring 45 heritage textile artists and creatives from 23 countries during February 2020 in Casa Pedregal, México City.
