Kasia Mosaics - How to Cut and Shape a Stained Glass Heart for Mosaics

In this video Kasia demonstrates how to cut and shape a heart out of stained glass. To do this she uses three basic hand tools: the pencil grip glass scoring tool, the running pliers and the flathead tile nippers. This technique does not require the use of a grinder or a wetsaw. Kasia uses this method to cut many semi-complex shapes like the heart seen here as well as more complex shapes she uses in her handmade, 'opaque' stained glass mosaic art.

In this video Kasia uses Spectrum Glass which is really smooth and has a beautiful rich and vibrant red hue. The glass seen here is 'Red and While Opal - 3571' from the American made glass Spectrum which is produced in Washington State but is widely available here in the US and online.

Kasia offers Online Classes as well as project kits, substrates and templates. Visit www.kasiamosaicsclasses.com for more information.

This video is meant to give a glimpse into the benefits of learning how to use glass scoring tools properly. This can only be accomplished by practicing the proper techniques. This cutting method also requires the artist to understand stained glass and how it needs to be treated to break properly. If you are a beginner, be patient, persistent and practice a lot and if you can't get it, do take a class from someone who can show you the ropes - good luck and I hope you enjoyed this video!
