Tsukudo shrine dedicated to Taira no Masakado(平将門を祀る築土神社)

Today I came to Tsukudo Shrine.
It is located in a corner of Japan's business district, flanked on both sides by office buildings.

It is said that the head of Taira no Masakado, a famous aristocrat of Kyoto, was enshrined here, and the shrine is dedicated to him.
The shrine was rebuilt in 1994, but it was built in 940 and has a history of over 1000 years.

Taira-no-Masakado was a powerful family that lived in the Heian period (794-1185).
He was famous for his rebellion to become emperor, and is a figure that Japanese children learn about in history class.
In the end, he declared his independence by claiming to be the emperor in his own territory, but was defeated two months after his declaration.
The conflict was too deep to put into words, and many speculations swirled around it.
After the death of Taira no Shogun, many inexplicable events occurred, and it is rumored that he became a grudge-holding spirit.
He has even been the subject of horror movies related to Japanese history.

Since Taira-no-Masakado was a strong fighter, this temple has the blessings of victory.
Come and visit!
