Painless headlight cleaning

Use very fine (00) steel wool with water to rub yellow oxidation off. This takes 2 to 3 minutes. Run water over headlight to remove residue. Wipe dry. Wet folded paper towel with nail polish remover (use one that contains acetone) and take off remaining oxidation. Apply polish cream and buff to shine. This can be done by hand or polisher. Spray 2 coats Meguiar's Headlight coating (about 10 to 15 dollars on Amazon) and let dry. If you want to spend more time sanding by going through different grades of sandpaper, go ahead. The resulting difference will be hardly noticeable. Also note that the more aggressive sanding you do, the more likely the headlight is going to crack.
It's the clear coat uv protection that makes the difference.
Wear gloves when applying acetone and mask when spraying clear coating. The clear coat is uv resistant and your job should last a few months to a year.
