Madison Campground in Yellowstone National Park Wyoming provides primitive tent and RV camping at the junction of West Entrance Road and US 20 inside the park. Close to Firehole River, Old Faithful and the Upper, Midway and Lower Geyser Basins this scenic campground provides a mix of pull thru and backin sites situated in a wooded setting. Managed by concessionaire reservations are recommended.
Paved roads and multiple loops Madison is one of the few campgrounds that can accommodate larger rigs in the pull thru sites (although serious leveling is usually needed). Onsite camphosts and staffed entrance station keep traffic low within the multiple loops. Hiking trails depart the area with popular short walks to the overlook of the Madison River where you can spot all types of wildlife roaming through the prairie below.
Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and shared bear boxes. Restrooms with running water and dish cleaning stations available. A dump station is also available. Group sites accommodate larger groups with reservations required for these sites.
Cycling enthusiasts enjoy riding from here down and around the Firehole River Rd; traffic tends to be slower moving and the shoulder is reasonably wide. It is 20 minutes from Madison west to West Yellowstone for restaurants and grocery.
Madison River is a beautiful river open to non-barbed fly fishing only.
Due to its easy to access and central location Madison Campground is a popular campground. With any sites not reserved in advance normally filled/ taken early in the morning.
