Caño Island, Costa Rica’s Best Snorkeling Spot

On this beautiful day in paradise, our team of species counters left the mainland and spent the noonish hours snorkeling at Costa Rica’s best snorkel spot, Caño Island. In total, we spent about 3 hours snorkeling and 1 hour soaking up some rays while enjoying Costa Rica’s most powdery white sandy beaches.

Yeah, it’s just as much fun as it appears to be
So come along and count some species with us.
Then, do us a favor and drop the total that you discover in our comments section, below.
Here’s our friendly background story;
We live in, BY FAR, the most intensely bio-diverse place on the planet. Our little village, which is seemingly disconnected from the rest of Costa Rica, is located on its smallest peninsula.
The most amazing feature, is also what causes it to contain such incredibly healthy biodiversity. Here, we have something that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Here, NEVER before cut primary lowland rainforest seamlessly blends into its adjoining protected oceanic coastlines. Because there is no fishing alongside Costa Rica’s most incredible national park, the oceanic ecosystems here are just as pristine as the coastal and terrestrial habitats.
So basically put, when we go for a hike or swim, we’re able to explore many spots that seem as though humans never evolved before.
As surprising as this may seem to some, it doesn’t suck.
So, what do people living here do for fun?
Well, I obviously can’t speak for everyone living here, but our friends most like to count the varied forms of different species that we come into contact with. We’re constantly attempting to one-up each other’s nature experiences, while we progressively study the systems that bind these natural ecosystems together.
Despite what one might suspect, in regards to all the one-upping that we do, we’re not the most competitive of groups. It’s more of an, I’m luckier than you, sort of bragging situation that we’ve got going on here.
As all respectable counters, we become much more motivated to explore when our results can be substantiated with evidence. So, when one of us finally acquired a GoPro Hero 3, we were at last able to take our fun below the water’s surface. Along the way, we’ve experienced more unforgettable memories than any individual could possibly remember. For this reason, we created our video-formatted memory archive on YouTube. And, to make our video memories even more enjoyable, our newer modeled GoPros are presently equipped with video stabilizers. Before they were invented holding the camera still enough, to generate quality recordings, had been a frustrating challenge. I like to look back and think that we were as successful as we could’ve been but, realistically, if all of the “Too Shaky” bits weren’t too shaky to use then these uploads would’ve been even better.
On our very first boat trip, with the new GoPro Hero 3, we were able to capture some really great action. We were less experienced back then so our uploads appeared way shakier than what we’d presently deem to be worthy, but still, I remember how crazy excited everyone was while watching that first video creation together. It was Charlotte who first said, “It’s like watching David Attenborough’s Blue Planet Documentary”. And so, we’ve been calling these group voyages some variation of, “The Blue Planet Tour” ever since.
This name has really seemed to stick because, if there is a true hero that we all look up to, it’s Sir David Attenborough. Why? Because someday we all hope to say that we were luckier than Davey.
If I personally spent every day of my life in the jungle, I’d die a very happy man. But the ocean is absolutely my favorite. And, though coastal snorkeling here is amazing, we would all love to do lots more group trips, both offshore and out to the island. Unfortunately, long boating adventures become expensive rather quickly. Still, we are absolutely grateful for the trips that we have enjoyed together and, if I do say so myself, the videos that we’ve produced are unreal. None of us take credit for them though. All credit should go to this amazing location. We’re simply pressing the RECORD button.
So, come along and count with us. Also, please do us a favor by entering the number of species you discover in our YouTube comments section.
