Addressing Billie Eilish’s “Revealing” Vogue Cover

Billie Eilish is one of the most popular musicians that currently exists. With songs like “Bad Guy”, "Ocean Eyes", and "When The Party's Over" Billie has captured the beauty and morbidity that a generation feels through music and accompanying visuals. Her music is pleasantly macabre, her music videos are transfixing, and her clothing choices have defied the conventional notions of what women musicians should wear. Her oversized and often baggy styles have become synonym with her, and come under both praise and criticism. But she has also become sought after by some of the biggest fashion brands in the world like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein and Burberry. But when the June 2021 issue of British Vogue came out with Eilish wearing lingerie, shapewear, and form fitting garments, it just about broke the internet. But I wanted to dig deeper into the looks, a bit of the psyche behind Billie's decision to branch out from her signature silhouette, and why some of the discourse around it is disturbing.
