In this episode, we get stuck into some serious progress! After returning from the timber and building merchants with solid oak beams and fresh cement, I open up a brand new belt sander to begin sanding down the beams — they've been outside for years and need a full restoration.

Meanwhile, the landscaping team arrives with heavy-duty mulching machines, finally transforming the huge piles of branches into rich mulch which we rake evenly across the planter beds. Lewis cracks on with raking the mulch from our previous DIY attempt using a rental mulcher. It’s a major step forward for our Sicily farmhouse renovation!

We also mix and pour concrete footings for the rear garden terrace, prep air conditioning ducting holes, clear leftover debris and tree stumps, and move the potted fruit trees into the sunlight.

Later, we fire up the BBQ, cook some tasty burgers, and I unbox my new Elwis Craftsman 1000R inspection lamp 🔦 — a seriously impressive bit of kit!
