Michael Stearns - Warao (Angkor Wat Complex, Cambodia)

In the early morning, before most tourists begin to arrive, you can walk amongst the ancient temples of Siem Reap in almost complete isolation. Likewise, certain temples at sunset.

I was fortunate enough to be able to spend an hour on my own in the heart-breakingly beautiful ruins of Beng Melea, while listening to Vidna Obmana's 'Landscape in Obscurity.' It was a dreamlike wandering; the stuff of Lovecraft.

The next evening I listened to 'The Lost World' by Michael Stearns, of which Warao is a part. It emanated through the empty temples around the main Angkor Wat complex like the echoes of a long-forgotten ghost, turning an already humbling experience into something profoundly moving.
