In this video, we talk about the differences we see between the Christmas season in Denmark and the Christmas season in America. We notice a lot of differences between Christmas in the two countries, and there are things we prefer about Christmas in Denmark. Still, there are some things that are just better about Christmas in America.

We discuss it all in this video for day 2 of Vlogmas 2021.

The Christmas Season is Longer in Denmark
In DK Christmas starts early in November, but Americans hate that (probably some Danes too) but only American shopping malls push it into early November
Thanksgiving is the real start to Xmas season in America but there isn’t Thanksgiving in Denmark
It’s nice having more Christmas in our opinion

Christmas Season is less stressful in Denmark
Maybe because it’s longer things don’t seem rushed in the 3.5 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas (spreads out the work parties, kids Christmas plays, etc)
Less materialistic society in general so there’s less pressure to buy buy buy
Although we exported Black Friday and that cultural bit
Social schedules fill up but it's also a bit more casual because you know everyone is busy, there’s just less pressure
Danes are better than Americans at staying within their means
Elf on the shelf doesn’t exist in Denmark

Christmas in Denmark is Prettier Than America
Christmas lights and boughs of evergreen look better on medieval buildings than inflatable Santas in American front yards
The darkness is tough, but it makes the candles and Christmas lights stand out (you get this a bit in the States too)

Danish Christmas markets are definitely better
They feel more authentic
They serve booze
Not as big of a thing in the USA - there it’s more of places to drive to and wind through Christmas lights or a Christmas village
Denmark has Tivoli and incredible markets

Christmas in Denmark is More about Tradition than Religion
The focus is on family and tradition during Christmas in Denmark
All of Denmark does the same thing for Christmas, so there’s really no pressure to do extra or fit in all the different families, etc.
It’s nice having a lot of unique traditions from around the globe in America, but it's tough running here and there and celebrating on the 24th and the 25th and sometimes seeing extended family before or after those dates
Danish traditions just make it easy
