Hitchhiking while Knitting a Canadian Flag

We spent way too much money the last episode, so we had to hitchhike 2000km from Edmonton AB, to Mt. Hood in Oregon to get to the location of our final episode. I also knit a Canadian flag along the way . PEOPLE ARE SO GOOD!

Hitch Hiking Tips!

Don't EVER get in a car with someone you're getting weird vibes from. If their breath smells like alcohol, or you get the heeby jeebies, politely decline the offer for a ride

Try and hitch hike with one other person. I still probably wouldn't hitch hike by myself.

Don't hitch hike at night

Have tons of water, and snacks its easy to get de-hydrated/super hungry after standing on the road for a long period of time.

Bring a Map in case your phone runs out of batteries

Bring a phone charger you can plug into people's cars

Ask if you can take a picture of the person's license plate before getting into the car. If they decline, don't get in the car.

Use a sign to let people know where you want to go. Other hitch hikers gave mixed reviews of this strategy, but it seemed to work well for us.

Stand near a stop light next to the turn off for the highway you're trying to get onto. This gives people a chance to check you out before letting you get into their car.

Where respectable clothes, bring deoderant and smile.

If you can help it, don't bring a huge backpack or thousands of dollars of camera equipment. We couldn't help it.

Knitting Tips!

Make sure to triple check the instructions before starting a project. With most projects I have the tendency of throwing out the manual two seconds into looking at it. Don't be me, look at the manual.

If you want a skill that is great for producing gifts for people, look no further, kitting is all you'll need.

If you can, but yarn local. Its more expensive, but worth the extra $5 to support a local business.
