Message to Growers
Conrad Richter, president of Richters Herbs, speaks to Alberta herb growers who met on April 26, 2015, to discuss a project to promote closer ties between growers and manufacturers. The goal is to help growers "improve crop and harvesting efficiencies so that they can become economically sustainable," according to Anita Dyrbye of From the Earth Naturally, a manufacturer of high quality herbal products based in St. Albert, Alberta. Anita is spearheading this effort, with help from partners such as the Olds College Centre for Innovation, the Alberta Rhodiola Growers Group, and Richters Herbs. Conrad offers useful advice to those who want to become herb growers or are considering adding herbs to their crop mix. Conrad discusses recent market swings and the need for crop diversity to help get through through the inevitable periods of market turbulence.
