Titan Missile Museum: Starting the Stage-1 Engine
The stage-1 engine has two thrust chambers that developed 430,000 pounds (195,000 kg) of thrust. Pumps forced fuel and oxidizer through an injector plate at the top of each thrust chamber. Propellant squirted out through pairs of small holes in the plate and became a mist. Hypergolic combustion was instantaneous.
