When we talk about web performance, we are talking about usability and more importantly webpage download time. The faster the webpage download time the happier the end-user, Google, and you will be.

In fact, slow-loading webpages are a negative search ranking signal for Google. Google doesn't care if your images are pretty or not. But, Google does care if your webpage takes too long to download. Google is not going to show any webpage that takes 20 seconds to download to an ender user. A blank screen conveys nothing and is therefore useless for all parties involved.

There will always be the trade-off between quality images that load slowly, or images that are not perfect but download quicker. Quicker is always better.

There are many online tools for measuring the performance of a webpage. The downside is that the results can be confusing to someone who is not a Web Developer.

I will show you the online tools I think are good.

The final part of the video will be dedicated to using Developer Mode which is available in every desktop browser which I believe is the easiest tool to use for judging image size and therefore performance.
