After scoring badly for his PSLE and barely scraping through to the Normal (Technical) stream at Bedok Green Secondary School, Zi Yang was discouraged. Why even try?

He played truant and took to bullying other students. But Shafik Said, a senior youth worker and team lead from CARE Singapore - the Children-At-Risk-Empowerment Association - saw something in him yet: A heart he hid behind walls.
Assigned to Zi Yang's class under The Scaffold Programme (developed by the National Council of Social Service), Shafik helped him find his direction and self confidence.
Note: From 2020, Bedok Green Secondary will be one of 28 schools piloting full subject-based banding, where students will no longer be streamed into Express, Normal (Academic) or Normal (Technical) courses, but will take subjects at different levels according to their abilities.
