South Dakota RV Camping

South Dakota is most famous for Mount Rushmore, but there’s so much more to it than that. It also has National Parks, wildlife, campgrounds, cotton candy sunsets, serenity, and cute small towns.

We parked the RV on the cliffs of Buffalo Gap National Grassland, just one mile from the Pinnacles entrance of Badlands National Park. It’s free to camp there (it’s Bureau of Land Management) and the views are unbeatable! If you’ve seen the Academy Award winning film, Nomadland, this is the place.

In order to get to this spot, head toward the Pinnacles entrance of the National Park. One mile prior to arriving at the entrance, you’ll see a bunch of RVs/Vans/Campers on your left. Shortly after, you’ll see a dirt road leading to where you need to go. It’ll make sense once you get there, but the easiest thing to do is copy and paste these coordinates to your GPS: 43°53'23.3"N 102°13'37.1"W

In this video, we take you through Badlands National Park, Wind Cave National Park, the small town of Custer, and of course, Mount Rushmore.

Oh, and… Happy 4th of July!!!
