We travel on the footplate of No 8 'Lucie' for the loco's first running in turn up the 1:49 gradient from Grosmont.

After completion of the locos overhaul, No. 8 spent several weeks moving around Grosmont MPD to check and rectify any issues.

The next stage for No. 8 is to run on the main running line to further test the loco on a longer run up the gradient. This allows the the fitters to check for any mechanical issues in addition to testing No.8 steaming ability on a longer run.

Several trips are usually made, over several days to test the loco before she moves to the next stage which is generally a loaded test run with empty coaching stock.
