The African Wild Cat Purr! I personally love cat purrs ever since feeling and listening to the vibrations cheetahs make when they produce their powerful purrs. It's so soothing and natural; and proven by science to actually have healing properties. The frequency of cats purrs is such that it is like a personal Ultrasound Machine that heals soft and hard tissue... if ever so slightly. It is one of the reasons cats purr... when they are injured or in pain, like a mom cat in labor.

I record best I could the gentle subtle purrs of the African Wild Cat, which I explain is the ancient ancestor of the common domesticated house cat. Over 10 thousand years ago, natural history investigators and archaeologist have discovered these cats living with people and raised and domesticated. In Cyprus (near Greece) one of these cats was found entombed beside its owner... dating back some 10,000 years ago!

The problem today is these Wild Cats are interbreeding with other house cats and watering down their gene pool. Pure bred African Wild Cats are in the decline as a result. They are not endangered but their pure breed is loosing numbers.

I visit some African Wild Cats (same ones as kittens in the video) and record their purrs as kittens and adults, put only a few moments as kittens and mostly as adults.

You can also tell a Wild Cat from a house cat by black bands of stripes down a wild cats tail and the tips solid black.
