From Pre-Med to Automotive Technician: Brandon Jurasin's Universal Technical Institute Story

Brandon Jurasin thought he'd take the pre-med route in college. He obtained a scholarship, but once he got there, he started to realize 4-year school wasn't for him. He started working on cars with friends and as a side job to escape, but he quickly realized his true career calling was as an automotive technician.

Before going to Universal Technical Institute (UTI), Brandon visited several high-end luxury dealerships and asked which school he should go to. He kept getting the same answer: UTI. He graduated from the UTI automotive technician program and decided to attend the Ford Accelerated Credential Training (FACT) program at UTI, too.

Brandon says the Ford FACT program was so great because of all the electrical diagnosis courses. He says with today's cars, everything's electrical, so he's noticed he's had a lot of opportunities because he completed Ford FACT and was already advanced in electrical.

Even though Brandon switched from pre-med to an automotive technician, he says everyone in his life still supported him. He finished college with his associate's but still went to UTI and is much happier now. He doesn't have to be in college until he's 32. He's only 23 and has already been working in the automotive field for 2 years now.

The curriculum at Universal Technical Institute is geared toward all students interested in joining today's automotive workforce. Enrolling in UTI does not require previous automotive experience. Our students span from having zero prior automotive knowledge to those who come from a family of mechanics looking to further their abilities.
