Latar Belakang:
Supermal Karawaci (dahulu Lippo Supermal) adalah pusat perbelanjaan milik Salim Group yang terletak di kota satelit Lippo Village, Karawaci, Tangerang. Terletak dalam tanah seluas 9 ha di Jalan Bulevar Diponegoro, mall ini dibangun pada 1990 dan dibuka untuk umum pada 1992 oleh joint venture antara Lippo Group, Rodamco Indonesia BV (anak usaha Rodamco Asia, cabang regional Unibail-Rodamco), dan GIC.
Lippo Supermal yang tadinya hanya seluas 32.000 m2 ini memperluas GFA nya sampai 72.000 m2 pada 1995, dan menerima kedatangan tenan utamanya, yaitu Toys r' Us, ACE Hardware, Lippo 21, Mega M, Galleria Dept Store, JCPenney Collections, dan Walmart Supercenter (yang buka pada 1996) - serta fasilitas Food Court dan Dunia Anak (dikelola oleh Timezone). Dengan ini Lippo Supermal dibagi menjadi tiga zona, Wholesale (dengan tenan utama Mega M, Walmart) - Specialty (dengan tenan utama JCPenney Collections, Galleria) - serta Beverly Hills (dengan merek mewah seperti Benetton dan Zegna). Lalu Supermal juga dilengkapi dengan show kembang api setiap Sabtu pk. 18:30 sore.
Namun, setelah Mei 1998, Lippo Supermal sempat tutup, sebelum dibuka kembali pada Maret 2000 dibawah manajemen baru Rodamco Indonesia BV. Dengan konsep dan nama baru, Supermal Karawaci memiliki fasilitas baru seperti Le Ciel Factory Outlet dan Waterpark, Supermal Karawaci memperluas kembali GFA nya sampai 120.000 m2 dengan Supermal Karawaci 2.
Lalu, pada 2008, Supermal Karawaci dibeli oleh Salim Group, yang merombak dan merenovasi Supermal Karawaci, dengan konsep dan branding baru pada 2012, serta memperluas Supermal Karawaci lewat vertikal dan horizontal, sehinggga mempunyai GFA 249.816 m2 dari yang tadinya 168.852 m2. Dengan tenan utama yaitu Sogo, Matahari, Hypermart, Foodmart, H&M, Uniqlo, Supermal Karawaci 21/XXI/The Premiere - pembagian zona seperti E-Center, Makansutra Food Court, U Walk, dan ditambahnya kompleks apartemen U-Residence, Supermal Karawaci kedepannya akan diperluas sampai 303.951 m2.

Supermal Karawaci (formerly Lippo Supermal) is a shopping center owned by the Salim Group located in the satellite town of Lippo Village, Karawaci, Tangerang. Located on 9 ha of land on Jalan Bulevar Diponegoro, this mall was built in 1990 and opened to the public in 1992 by a joint venture between Lippo Group, Rodamco Indonesia BV (a subsidiary of Rodamco Asia, a regional branch of Unibail-Rodamco), and GIC.
The Lippo Supermal, which was only 32,000 m2 wide, expanded its GFA to 72,000 m2 in 1995, and received the arrival of its main tenants, namely Toys Us', ACE Hardware, Lippo 21, Mega M, Galleria Dept Store, JCPenney Collections, and Walmart Supercenter (Walmart Supercenter) which opened in 1996) - and Food Court and World Children's Facilities (managed by Timezone).
