Penutupan CENTRO Summarecon Mall Serpong

Masa pandemi ini tidak begitu nikmat untuk Parkson Centro. Setelah flagship store Parkson yang satu-satunya di Jakarta tutup Agustus 2020 silam (di Lippo Mall Puri), kabar buruk datang dari Gading Serpong.
Hari Minggu, 3 Januari 2021 adalah hari terakhir Centro SMS beroperasi, dan di video ini dapat disimak kegiatan-kegiatan menuju penutupan Centro SMS untuk terakhir kalinya. Selamat menyaksikan.

The pandemic hasn't been so kind for Parkson Centro. After the closure of Parkson's one-and-only flagship store in Jakarta last August 2020 (in Lippo Mall Puri), bad news has come from Gading Serpong.
Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 was Centro SMS's last trading day, and in this video, you can feel the atmosphere of the store going to its unfortunate curtain call. Enjoy.

Latar Belakang:
Pada 27 Oktober 2011, beriringan dengan dibukanya Summarecon Mal Serpong Tahap 2 (sekarang dikenal sebagai Summarecon Mall Serpong 2 / SMS 2), salah satu tenan utama mereka yang mengambil dua lantai paling atas mampu melakukan Grand Opening bertepatan dengan sang SMS 2: ialah Centro Lifestyle Department Store dengan gerai ketujuhnya di seluruh Indonesia. Gerai 10.000 m2 ini didesain dengan konsep lebih mengakomodir penduduk Gading Serpong yang menjadi target consumer Centro - 70% nya Chinese - dengan mendatangkan koleksi kosmetik yang lebih luas dengan merek seperti Shiseido, Kanebo, dan Yves Rocher. Ditambah counter-counter ELLE, Nikicio, Chic Simple, Izzue, Salt N Pepper, Guess, Hush Puppies, Ultima, Biotherm, Lancome, Swatch, Spex Symbol, Coconut Island, Giordano, Hello Kitty, Gioretti, dan Yongki Komaladi, Centro saat itu dapat dikatakan menjadi toserba termewah di daerah Serpong (tidak menghitung Debenhams di Supermal Karawaci yang saat itu sudah buka sejak 2008), sebelum kompetisi datang dalam bentuk Sogo di Mall @ Alam Sutera pada tahun 2012.
Namun, seiring berjalannya waktu, banyak perubahan datang ke Summarecon Mal Serpong. Tutupnya Do It Best PONGS, digantinya Eat&Eat oleh Souq Pasar Malam, relokasi Best Denki (yang tadinya terletak dibawah Centro), dan terbaru adalah renovasi STAR Dept Store - toserba milik Summarecon sendiri. Akhirnya, setelah hampir 10 tahun, Centro menutup gerai satu-satunya di Serpong pada 4 Januari 2021.

Background:
On October 27, 2011, the opening of Summarecon Mall Serpong Phase 2 (now known as Summarecon Mall Serpong 2 / SMS 2) coincided with the opening of one of their anchors - anchoring the top two floors with 10,000 sqm of GFA - the seventh Centro Lifestyle Department Store. Designed with Gading Serpong residents (and Centro target consumers) in mind - 70% of them Chinese - they curated a large cosmetic collection with brands such as Shiseido, Kanebo, and Yves Rocher. This was added with mid-up counters across several departments: ELLE, Nikicio, Chic Simple, Izzue, Salt N Pepper, Guess, Hush Puppies, Ultima, Biotherm, Lancome, Swatch, Spex Symbol, Coconut Island, Giordano, Hello Kitty, Gioretti, and Yongki Komaladi. Centro - at the time - was arguably the most upscale department store in the Serpong area (excluding Debenhams at Supermal Karawaci which has been open since 2008), before competition rose such as Sogo who opened at Mall @ Alam Sutera in 2012.
However, many changes have come to Summarecon Mal Serpong over the years. The closure of Do It Best PONGS, the closure of Eat&Eat to be replaced by Souq Pasar Malam, the relocation of Best Denki (then located under Centro), and the latest is the renovation of STAR Dept Store - Summarecon's own convenience store. And so after nearly 10 years, Centro has closed its only outlet in Serpong on January 4, 2021.
