Najib obtains stay of execution on US$1.18bil SRC judgment

Datuk Seri Najib Razak today obtained a stay of execution on a High Court judgment ordering him to pay US$1.18 billion pending his appeal over losses suffered by SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Judge Datuk Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin ruled that special circumstances justified the stay, citing the unprecedented magnitude of the judgment sum.

The court also ordered Najib to pay RM2 million in costs to SRC for the main suit, subject to allocation.

In third-party proceedings, Najib was ordered to pay RM150,000 in costs to each set of solicitors involved.

On March 31, the same court found the former prime minister liable for losses amounting to US$1.18 billion suffered by SRC International after ruling that he had committed misfeasance in public office.
