This song is based on a 1955 gospel by "The Staple Singers", adapted to more modern rhythms by Ben E. King. It was first published in 1961. It reached the top ten of the best-selling singles in the United States twice, in 1961 and 1986, on the occasion of the release of the film "Stand by me – Ricordo di una estate", and the first place in the British charts.
