Nazis that Fled to Paraguay 🇵🇾

After WW2 several high ranking Nazis fled to Paraguay in South America. German immigrants had first arrived late 19th century and again after WW1. In 1931 the first Latin American Nazi Party was established in Paraguay. On US pressure the Paraguayan government eventually cracked down on these sentiments.
After the war Paraguay received many Nazis to the country escaping capture and trial. One of them was Eduard Roschmann. Roschmann was known as the “butcher of Riga,” died in Asuncion in 1977. Also Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele became a naturalized citizen of Paraguay. He later moved to Brazil where he died in 1979.
According to files the Paraguayan police made public it was claimed that high ranking Nazi Martin Bormann had made it to Paraguay. In the report was stated that Mengele traveled to Paraguay to cure Bormann of stomach cancer. To no avail as Bormann died in 1959. Other investigations show Bormann died in Berlin in May 1945.
