1.Andhra Pradesh government launched Project HANUMAN to address human-wildlife conflict. HANUMAN stands for Healing and Nurturing Units for Monitoring, Aid and Nursing of Wildlife. The initiative aims to rescue, treat, rehabilitate, and monitor injured wildlife, strengthening conservation and rapid response systems. Human-wildlife conflict in Andhra Pradesh is rising: 2,107 cases recorded in 2025-2026, with nearly Rs 4 crore paid as compensation.

2.Costa Rica launched the ICP mobile app to help identify venomous snakes and improve public awareness. The app is developed by Universidad de Costa Rica through the Clodomiro Picado Institute. It enables identification of 25 venomous snake species using images and scientific descriptions. The app provides first-aid guidance for snakebites and safety instructions for users. It also allows users to record geographic location of snake encounters to assist medical response. The initiative addresses frequent misidentification and reduces unnecessary killing of non-venomous snakes. The app is freely available on Android and iOS, promoting accessible public health information.

3.The Home Ministry has approved renaming Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh as Parashurampuri. The approval has been communicated to the state Chief Secretary, and a gazette notification is expected soon. Residents long demanded the change to remove the town’s association with “ghulami” (slavery) and honour Lord Parashuram. Parashurampuri is regarded as the mythological birthplace of Lord Parashuram.

4.Spain has announced a nationwide ban on social media access for children below 16 years of age. It became the first European country and the second globally after Australia to take this step. The ban is expected to come into force within a week. Social media companies must enforce strict age verification and compliance. Australia introduced a similar ban in December 2025, leading to removal of over 5.5 lakh underage accounts. The move may influence other European Union countries to adopt stricter digital child protection laws.

5.Scientists at CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine demonstrated that Apis mellifera can survive sub-zero temperatures, reducing the need for seasonal hive migration. Apis mellifera is the most widely distributed and domesticated honey bee species globally. It is commercially important for honey, wax, propolis production, and crop pollination. It is native to Europe, West Asia, and Africa, it has been introduced worldwide since the 17th century. It thrives in habitats with abundant flowering plants such as meadows, forests, and gardens. It can adapt to diverse environments including grasslands, deserts, and wetlands with adequate resources.
