The Demonic Curse of Annabelle the Doll! #scary #doyoubelieve #horrorstories

Annabelle was a Raggedy Ann doll given as a birthday gift to a student nurse from her mother in 1970. The doll stayed with the student in her college rooms which she shared with another female student.

However the doll started to exhibit strange behaviour. The girls would arrive home and find her in a different place from where she had been left and at one point they found her sitting up with her arms crossed. The doll also started leaving messages on scraps of paper with the words "HELP US".

The students were so freaked out they called in a psychic medium who held a séance in which she made contact with a young girl by the name of Annabelle Higgins. Tragically at the age of just seven, Annabelle died and it was her spirit that had possessed the doll. Through the medium Annabelle informed the college girls that she liked being with them and felt safe around them.

Feeling a bit more settled the students tried to accept the spirit-possessed doll, until she started to exhibit malicious and frightening behaviour, when she tried to strangle a male guest as he slept, and left him with scratches on his chest.

Believing the doll was evil they contacted a priest who called in famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who concluded that a demon had attached itself to the doll and after the priest performed an exorcism, the Warrens removed the doll from the students apartment and put it in a sealed case sprinkled with holy water, that they displayed in their Occult Museum in Connecticut, where she remains to this day.

The 2013 horror movie The Conjuring is said to be inspired by events that took place.
