Come along with me, Frodo, and my little bear Poefi for Days 24 and 25 of the Pieterpad, the most famous long-distance hiking trail in the Netherlands.

🌳 Day 24 – Zuidlaren → Groningen (22 km)
A bright November day leads us past ancient hunebedden (megalithic tombs) D3, D4, and G1 — the only one in the province of Groningen still on its original site. The path winds through Noorlaarder Bos, the Appélbergen dunes, and over the Onnen railway bridge, before following the Hoornse Diep into the vibrant city of Groningen.

🏙️ Day 25 – Groningen → Winsum (22 km)
We leave the city behind, passing a historic Jewish cemetery — a reminder of Groningen’s once-large pre-WWII Jewish community. Around midday, we reach the charming church of Oostum, a favorite among painters from the artists’ collective De Ploeg. The rest of the way to Winsum follows smooth cycle paths — beautiful but tough on tired feet!

☀️ The weather was kind again, and the scenery kept us company all the way north. Only 12 km remain before completing the full Pieterpad — but that’s for the next episode.
