The image of a little girl sleeping at the side of a Kabul road has come to symbolise the plight of thousands of displaced children who have become separated from their parents amid the chaos sparked by the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
Aisha was taken in by strangers after her parents died, and was gifted one night of safety after a pair of strangers took pity on and allowed her to stay at their home overnight.
She is among the 550,000 refugees scattered across Afghanistan, with the desperate scramble to escape the Taliban chaos growing in urgency as the August 31 US withdrawal troop deadline inches ever closer.
