Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was a Jordanian militant jihadist who oversaw training facilities in Afghanistan and became associated with a number of bombings and beheadings during the Iraq war and was nicknamed the "Sheikh of the Slaughterers" by his followers. His name would continuously appear in videos and audio tapes where he gloated about his involvement in executions, suicide bombings and other acts of violence amongst those he deemed an enemy of the Jihad.
