The Fight for Flight (Part 1): The Wright Brothers

Humanity has always dreamt of flight, but progress toward the world of aviation we know today has been slow until recently. For centuries, only a tiny group of individuals have studied flight. Beginning in the 19th century, though, aviation exploded. Scientists learned about lift and camber. Experiments led to hot air balloons which were followed by gliders, followed airships, followed by powered airplanes. The Wright brothers took us over the threshold into sustained powered flight the early 20th century.

I want to give credit to and thank the great historian and author David McCullough. While many sources were used in the creation of this video, McCullough’s book The Wright Brothers was the single most significant source. Not only does his book contain an incredible amount of detail, it also paints a picture for the reader. Without McCullough’s insight, I am not sure that I would have been able to have developed the same image and understanding of the Wright Brothers.
