Mercedes-Benz Actros - How to bleed the steering system in Actros MP II

Tilting the cab is not necessary but it makes our work easier.
Check the cab for any loose objects.
Open the maintenance flap and set the switchover valve to tilt.
Press the actuation button for the tilt mechanism.
Ensure that no one is in the tilting range of the cab.
Tilt the cab to its end position.
Raise the vehicle at the front axle.
This makes it easier to turn the front wheels.
Check the steering gear oil level.
The oil level should not be below the minimum mark.
If there is insufficient oil in the expansion reservoir, the hydraulic pump could suck in air.
Start the engine and let it idle.
This keeps the oil circuit in constant motion.
Loosen the jam nut for the left limiter adjustment screw.
Turn the screw as far as it will go.
The steering must be centered and the engine must be running constantly.
Re-tighten the jam nut.
The "L" stands for the left pressure limiting valve.
It is responsible for limiting the hydraulic pressure in the left limit stop.
Not for the right limiter.
Turn steering to left limit stop and hold for about 5 seconds.
Then turn the steering to the mechanical end stop several times.
The movement of the steering wheel increases and limits the oil flow.
This helps the air in the steering circuit to escape.
Check the steering gear oil in the oil reservoir for air bubbles.
If there are bubbles in the oil reservoir, allow the engine to continue running.
Turn the steering to the left stop again until there are no more bubbles in the reservoir.
In this way, the steering system bleeds itself.
Now connect the pressure gauge in order to adjust the pressure limiting valve.
Remove the screw plug and replace it with a threaded fitting.
Tighten the threaded fitting.
Connect the pressure gauge.
When taking measurements, the steering wheel needs to be held in the left stop position.
You will need an assistant to help you.
Set the steering pressure to 50 bar.
Adjust the left pressure reduction valve to achieve the required pressure setting.
The engine must be running during the entire adjustment procedure.
The pressure must be 50 bar plus 10 bar tolerance.
Using a torque wrench, tighten the jam nut to 38 Newton meters.
The right pressure reduction valve is located here.
Now turn the steering to the right end stop to check and adjust the right pressure reduction valve.
