Terry Bristol, How Did the Elements Come to Be As They Are?, at Mendeleev 150

Examines two broad narratives concerning the formation of the elements of the periodic table: The Entropic Narrative and the Anthropic Narrative. Further explores the inherent nature of the elements: their stability and their agency. The elements are better understood post-mechanically as agents in that they have internal energy and they change (evolve) spontaneously. Following Leibniz, the element 'perceive' – meaning they are sensitive to their surroundings (e.g. other elements, charge, gravity, etc) and they 'seek' – meaning that they naturally evolve. The latter characteristic is necessary to account for the later chemical evolution of reality.
