DON'T Do No Equipment Back and Biceps Workouts (Here's Why!!)

I'm going to be real with you. In my opinion, it's impossible to have a good home back and bicep workout with no equipment.

Let me define what I mean by a "good" workout. My definition of a "good" workout is one that contributes to muscle growth and helps me learn calisthenics skills. Perhaps your definition of a good workout is different. However, since some of the most searched for terms on YouTube and Google are things like "how to build muscle with calisthenics" and "how to learn [insert your calisthenics skill of choice]", then it is highly likely that this is your definition of a "good" workout too.

Since lockdown/quarantine started, I've been seeing a whole bunch of BIG fitness influencers and bodybuilders saying you can "effectively" work your back and biceps at home with no equipment.

I do not agree.

What's more, the exercises a lot of these bodybuilders/fitness influencers are recommending are completely ineffective. Therefore, I had to make a video exposing which exercises these are because I haven't seen anyone call them out yet.

If your goal is to build mass in your back and biceps, then the best way to do so is to use equipment. You can use a home pull up bar, gymnastic rings, weights, resistance bands, or any other kind of relevant equipment that will put your muscles under enough tension to stimulate muscle growth.

Using a towel, or your leg (as some of these influencers have suggested) will NOT help you build a big back or big biceps. It will NOT make you look like the bodybuilder/influencer who is recommending that exercise. These bodybuilders and influencers use WEIGHTS and/or challenging BODYWEIGHT EXERCISES WITH EQUIPMENT to build muscle in their backs and biceps. They did NOT get their big, impressive backs by doing no equipment workouts. It would be impossible to look like how they look without using some kind of equipment (whether that be weights, a pull up bar, rings, resistance bands, etc.).

I'm sure I'm going to be stepping on a lot of toes with this video. I expect that a lot of people will say things like "HOW DARE YOU SAY YOU CAN'T HAVE A GOOD BACK AND BICEP WORKOUT WITH NO EQUIPMENT". But I maintain my opinion and stand by what I say. I have never done a single back and biceps workout without equipment because I know that it's ineffective to do so (or at the very least, not as effective as using equipment). Therefore, I will never recommend this to my subscribers or followers.

If you want to make substantial back gains and learn advanced calisthenics skills (like the front lever, muscle up, and archer pull up), then use equipment.

But what if you don't have equipment? Here are some alternatives:

1) Buy some. Now, I do appreciate that some people might not be able to buy equipment due to a lack of finances. If this is you, then please read options 2 and 3. If this isn't you, then buy some equipment. It's an investment in yourself. And with that equipment, you will be able to work your back and biceps PROPERLY. Again, equipment you can use to work your back and biceps include a pull up bar, gymnastic rings, weights, resistance bands, etc.

2) Find some. There are outdoor parks all over the world. If you have to walk for 30 minutes to get to one, do that. If there is no outdoor park near you, find somewhere you can hang and do pull ups; a tree branch, a bicycle rail, a wooden beam in a shed, etc. There are so many things you can use to do pull ups or bicep exercises. You just have to get creative with what's around you.

3) Make some. I've seen people make their own calisthenics equipment. I've seen a bunch of people make their own home calisthenics gym, even. It's possible. You could do it too if you wanted to. It would certainly be a better option than floundering on the floor with a towel.

There are many ways to achieve your goals. This video is not to discourage you. It's not to be negative. I'm simply telling you to USE EQUIPMENT if you want to make the best progress with your back and biceps and learn advanced calisthenics skills.
