Mail boat pulls along side freighter as storm hits with 40 MPH wind

The Detroit Mail boat J.W. Westcott II was alongside the freighter Algoma Sault Saturday afternoon when sever weather moved through. Mail is transferred to the freighter by a bucket that is lowered by a crewman on the deck of the freighter to the mail boat below. With the storm’s high winds the bucket couldn’t be lowered and the attempt was aborted. A few minutes later, the storm had eased and the delivery was complete.

You can add 40 mile an hour winds and high waves to the Postman’s creed that the mail must get through.

The J.W. Westcott Company has been a family owned Detroit business since 1874 servicing the commercial marine community.
