The One Nation That Gave Up Its Nuclear Weapons

Nations that develop nuclear weapons often do so as a deterrent to any would-be attacker; it is a significant investment and so these nations, especially the smaller nations on the nuclear list, are threatened by nations surrounding them.
Just one nation though has walked this path in both directions. South Africa, under Apartheid, was diplomatically isolated from the world, and thus felt the need to develop the most powerful defence imaginable. But the end of Apartheid also brought the end of their Nuclear Arsenal.
