No brushes ! Multi panel oil paint simple demo
This is a bit longer than usual but I wanted to show the whole creative process without using timelapse. I've been getting comments about the silence in the demo videos that people seem to like, so no talking and no music. Hope you find the demo useful, more on the way.
Materials used :
160gsm smooth white card
Winsor & Newton Winton oil paint
Prussian Blue, Vandyke Brown
Pallet knife, blunt pencil, sponge and rags
Recycled plastic & cardboard, masking tape.
Create a transfer sheet with a piece of plastic (recycled carrier bag) this can be used more than once so don't throw away when finished. Using a pallet knife spread a thin even layer of oil paint across the surface, it's important not to use too much paint at this stage. Make masks from card or newspaper to protect those areas of the paper that you want to remain white.
Apply the paint from the transfer sheet in stages, the first layer will be the darkest tones which will begin to fade as more paint is applied. Experiment with different ways of making marks on the surface (heavy pressure = darker tones) Allow the white of the paper to be part of the composition and remember to STOP when you feel the work is finished, it's very easy at this stage for the piece to become overworked.
The oil paint colours used for this demo are Prussian Blue mixed with a little Vandyke Brown.
You can achieve excellent results with a few basic materials, making use of recycled card and plastic bags. Oil paint, pallet knife, sponge and cloth.
