US pop star Mariah Carey flew into Morocco Friday to perform at the kingdom's controversial Mawazine music festival.
The expensive week long music event has been in the spotlight after one of Morocco's own leading rappers was recently imprisoned for criticising the police in the lyrics of a song.
Rapper Mouad Belghouat, alias Al Haqed or 'The Enraged' was sentenced to a year in jail after denouncing police corruption in the north African kingdom.
Journalists were requested not to ask 'political' questions by organisers at Carey's news conference presser ahead of her Saturday night show.
Carey told the media at her press conference, for which she was almost an hour late, of her pleasure to be back in Morocco where she had previously holidayed but never before performed.
She also spoke of how she is getting back into her work after a year of two new experiences, baby twins.
Local journalists were especially keen to know more about why Carey named her new son 'Moroccan'.
Carey also spoke of growing up as a child parents from different races and how it has taught her priorities to pass on to her twins.
