George Floyd Protests: The Two Extremes of US Police Tactics

Protesters in the USA have been calling on police to 'take a knee' in a show of support. Videos on social media show that many officers chose to kneel alongside those marching against racial injustice.

But the heavy-handed tactics of other US police forces have been sharply criticised.

Footage captured on mobile phones show police ramming into protesters with cars and one officer pointing his gun at a crowd in New York.

In Washington DC, police used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse a crowd of peaceful protesters near the White House. It appears Donald Trump wanted the route cleared for a photo opportunity at a nearby church.

Trump held a bible in front of St John's Episcopal Church just across the road from the presidential residence in a move which has shocked many religious leaders.

So far, the President has not hinted that he plans to enforce any changes to policing guidelines.
