When Rabin and Arafat signed the pact between Israel and the Palestinians in Washington, there was hesitation in Israel. Yet two fathers from the opposing sides, both of whom had lost their sons to the conflict, decided to opt for discussion and understanding.

Riots in Hebron disrupted daily life. But in the middle of this anger something beautiful happened. Two fathers, whose sons died fighting each other, met and planned to start a centre to promote tolerance and understanding between Palestinians and Israelis. Sheik Yassin Badr is a Palestinian whose son executed the Jewish soldier Nachshon Wachsman, son of Jehoeda Wachsman, during a hostage-tragedy which shocked Israel last year. Badr's son Abd el-Karim, a Hamas fighter, was killed by the Israeli army during the rescue attempt to free the hostage. The elder Badr and Wachsman's initiative offers hope for the future of the Israeli-Palestinian Pact even though - sadly - both Palestinians and Israelis condemned the two fathers. This feature includes Yassin Badr and Jehoeda Wachsman discussing the conflict.
