Chapada dos Guimarães | Hiking and Birding in Brazil | Mato Grosso Brazil 2023 | Relaxing 4K-Video

Chapada dos Guimarães is the name of the city, as well as the National Park. The area is famous for the high plateau with stunning red sandstone rock formations. Countless small streams create beautiful waterfalls and provide the erosive force that still forms this breathtaking landscape to this date. On our first day we drove through huge cotton plantations and cattle ranges to the beautiful Buriti farm. From there we hiked to several mystical waterfalls around the farm. On the way back to the hotel we stopped at the Geodetic viewpoint to enjoy the view over the hinterland. Back at the beautiful Casa da Quineira hotel we spent some time for birding in the garden. The next morning we visited the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park. We started with the most iconic viewpoint, the Cidade de Pedra (Stone City). Standing high up at the edge of the cliff we had a fantastic view over these stunning rock formations. After some hiking we visited the famous Véu de Noiva, the Bridal Veil waterfall. This is the highest waterfall in the area with a drop of 86 m. After the Véu de Noiva we continued to the Vale do Rio Claro. After a demanding hike to the top we had an incredible view on the Crista do Galo (Cockscomb) rock formation and we enjoyed our last panorama over the Chapada dos Guimarães.

Welcome to our birding and hiking trip in July 2023 to the Chapada dos Guimarães in Mato Grosso in Brazil. We stayed three nights at the wonderful Casa da Quineira Hotel and would like to thank the excellent staff and our amazing guide Rodrigo from Rasta House Ecotour for this amazing experience.
