All The Things I HATED About Med School | Doctor A

Even though there were many fun things about being in Med School in India, there were a few things that really bothered me. Today I discuss those with you guys!

But, for every 5 things I hated in Med School, there were 10 other good things about it, so don't let these discourage you from getting into medicine (if that's what you want)

04:24 A bit outdated syllabus
07:49 Stress about the “next big thing”

10:50 Low-quality teaching/guidance

⚡️SHORT SUMMARY:

Bad entrance process: I really hated the way they considered candidates for admission. Many of my friends who wanted to get into medicine couldn't get in and many uninterested candidates got in just because they had a good rank.

I really hope they start considering overall academic achievements and add career counseling in high school to ensure candidates know what they're getting into

The syllabus was outdated: I hated the fact that we had to learn and even give exams on realllllly outdated stuff that hasn't been used for over 50 years in medical practice. Instead of these, if they make us learn about the future of medicine and all the research that's happening in medicine, we would learn so much more and maybe even get interested in changing the way medicine is going to be practiced in the future.

Stress about the next big thing: Once you get into medicine, you'll be worried about the next "big thing" and that is the PG entrance exams. And these exams have the same issue as the UG exams, with no importance given to whether the person is actually interested in the subjects they're getting into. And because it's difficult to get a good rank, people are very stressed about it through their entire med school period.

Not much holiday time: I also hated the fact that we only got 15 days off after each sem and that would be followed by internal assessments once we came back to college. This meant that we had to study MORE during holidays

Low-quality teaching/guidance: Many professors were very uninterested in teaching and were quite uninspiring. Great teachers were there, but they were probably just a few for the entire year. I hope more teachers who are passionate about teaching get into the profession.
