What started as a slow, uncertain morning in Mestia turned into one of the most beautiful and unexpected experiences of my trip.

After arriving in Mestia the day before (following a very long 10-hour bus ride from Tbilisi), I was torn between starting the famous 4-day trek to Ushguli or just sticking to something simple. I love hiking, but I’ll admit — I’m not the best with directions, and being cautious in the mountains is kind of my thing.

So, I did what felt right: I wandered around town, found the start of the trail, chatted with a few hikers who had already done the full trek… and then stopped for breakfast to think.

And then — as if by magic — the day decided itself.

While walking through town, I met three travelers from China who were heading out on a day hike to Mazeri. We got talking, and before I knew it, I was joining them on the trail. No overthinking, no big plans — just a shared adventure that fell into place at the perfect moment.
