Entre Dos Aguas - Paco de Lucia Flamenco Guitar Cover

Entre Dos Aguas (Flamenco Guitar Cover) is one of my all time Paco de Lucia favorites and was recorded for my second album entitled Che Sara.

I’ve tried to stay true to the original as was crafted by the legendary flamenco guitarist, Paco de Lucia, and enjoyed putting my stamp on this track. This song is so enjoyable to play, so full of rhythm, percussion, cool baselines, and with the laid-back feel of improvised jazz, this piece really hits the spot!

The role of flamenco guitar evolved considerably through the playing of Paco de Lucia who singlehandedly took flamenco guitar out of the penas and gypsy rooms of provincial Spain onto the mainstream stage of modern music. This piece has a beautiful but simple melody that is improvised upon throughout, and sits on a bed of really hot percussion and rumba rhythms, which captivate and excite the listener. Entre dos Agua has been in my set for a long time, and I plan to keep it there as it is really suited to the Latin and Spanish style and the tastes of audiences all over the world.

Recorded at the studio of my friend and producer John Roy in New South Wales, Australia, the song was added to by my friends and other studio musicians on percussion and bass guitar. The instrumentation used was my flamenco guitar in the studio using close and distant microphone techniques, as is the case with most of my recordings. The arrangement is as was penned by Paco do Lucia some time ago and it is true to keeping in the Latin and Spanish guitar style.

I feel really good while playing Entre Dos Agua as it is very guitaristic in nature and it sits very well on our instrument and the way we improvise with one another when we are making this song work is very enjoyable! When I first heard this song I felt almost compelled to go out and learn it, not realizing in fact how difficult the song really is. Paco de Lucia is known as one of the finest and fastest guitar players in the world, which presented its own challenges to not only me but to everybody that plays it.

The structure of the song is in improvised fashion. It is in three particular structures and sits beautifully for the duration of the six minutes in which it lasts. The other artists who recorded this song are many and varied, and Paco de Lucia until his death used it to perform live in many of his own concerts. Audiences respond really well to this song, it is obviously Spanish and flamenco in taste, is full of rhythm, and really exciting to listen to.
