Hillstream Loach Tank 🐠EXTREME Flow Subtropical River Aquarium

Subtropical Hillstream biotopes with high water flow have been a fascination of mine for a while. I love watching hillstream loaches graze on biofilm and hold on to surfaces with their specialized pectoral fins.

After breaking down my original 75 gallon hillstream tank, I rebuilt it in a better way using a custom spraybar powered by a 1000 GPH pond pump from below. It is a 75 gallon display tank which I drilled. The water flows in one direction and drains out of a sequential overflow system into another 75 gallon aquarium below. There is a dry emergency drain and also a handy water change valve halfway up the back of the tank. This system is maintained at around 68 to 70 degrees F.

I have various species of hillstream loaches including Sewellia lineolata, Sewellia sp. “SEW01”, Gastromyzon, Beufortia kweichowensis. I also have Garra flavatra in here as well as Tanichthys albonubes. There are also stray neocaridina blue velvet shrimp and Amanos.

I think this is a better hillstream loach tank than my old one! Please leave a comment if you have any questions or if you just want to say hi. Also let me know if you keep hillstream loaches and what you do to care for them. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you enjoy the content. Happy fishkeeping and have a good one!

This system totals 150 Gallons, consisting of a 75 Gallon Display Tank and 75 Gallon Sump with Mattenfilter.
