How To Set Up A Hillstream Loach River Aquarium

Hillstream loaches are engaging oddball fish that do great in river style aquariums. With their suction cup shaped bodies, they are perfectly adapted to rapidly flowing mountain streams that would wash most fish away.

In this video I show how to set up a river tank for these feisty little guys. I also discuss feeding tips and show plenty of footage of them doing their thing (wiggling and gliding, piling up in a corner looking for a pellet, chasing each other, defending their rocks).

My tank primarily houses reticulated hillstream loaches (sewellia lineolata), but I also have one spotted sewellia and one butterfly loach (beaufortia kweichowensis). These fish can be shy at first, but if you put them in a suitable tank and give them a nice sized shoal, you’ll really see their personalities come out.
