Forget New Years Resolutions - Set Smart Goals in 2020

I've never been a fan of new years resolutions -- mostly because the gym is exceptionally crowded for the month of January. In this video, I explain how to set SMART goals and share some of my smart goals for 2020.

SMART stands for specific, measurable, actionable, relevant and time-bound.

My SMART goals for 2020 are:
1. Find an apartment in NYC or Jersey City for less than $2,100 per month in the next 6 weeks
2. Start investing $300 a month into vehicles besides my retirement accounts
3. Attend industry meetups/happy hours once per month
4. Publish 1 youtube video per week
5. Become debt free (credit cards within 2 months, student loans by September)

Below is a breakdown of smart goals with some examples:

SPECIFIC - must be a goal that has laser-like focus
not specific: "I want to save money"
specific: "I want to save money for a car"

MEASURABLE - must have some kind of numeric value attached to it
not measurable: "I want to save money for a car"
measurable: "I want to save $3,000 for a car"

ACTIONABLE - must be able to take action on it, not a state of existance or condition
not actionable: "I want to save $3,000 for a car"
actionable: "I will save $3,000 for a car by putting $150 in my high yield savings account after every paycheck"

RELEVANT- must be relevant to your life or situation
not relevant: "I want to save $3,000 for a car by putting $150 in my high yield savings account after every paycheck"
relevant: "I want to save $3,000 for a car by putting $150 in my high yield savings account after every paycheck so I can buy a car because my current car is on its last leg"

TIME-BOUND - must be bound by a time frame or period
not time-bound: "I want to save $3,000 for a car by putting $150 in my high yield savings account after every paycheck so I can buy a car because my current car is on its last leg"
time-bound: "I want to save $3,000 for a car by the end of 2020 by putting $150 in my high yield savings account after every paycheck so I can buy a car because my current car is on its last leg"
