Thermal Energy | Heat and Temperature
In this whiteboard animations tutorial, I will teach you thermal energy, heat and temperature. After watching this video you will learn that what is thermal energy, what is heat, what is temperature, thermal energy and temperature, difference between heat and temperature, temperature and kinetic energy, relationship between kinetic energy and temperature, coldness and hotness, etc.
Q: What is thermal energy?
Q: Define thermal energy?
Ans: The energy possessed by an object due to the movement of particles within the system is called thermal energy. For example, consider a closed gas cylinder. The particles of the gas are in constant random motion; hence they possess thermal energy. Remember that thermal energy directly depends on the kinetic energy of particles. If the kinetice energy of the particles are high, thermal energy will also be high, and temperature of the system will increase. As a result, such a systrm or body will be hot.
Q: What is temperature?
Q: Define temperature?
Ans: The measure of degree of hotness and coldness of an object or system is known as temperature. Temperature is nothing, but a name given to average translational kinetic energy of all the particles present in a system.
Thus, temperature measures the degree of hotness and coldness.
Q: What is heat?
Q: Define heat?
Ans: The transfer of thermal energy from a warmer object to a cooler object is known as heat. One can also say that heat is the flow of thermal energy from a hot region to a cold region.
For example, consider a hot teapot and a cold cup. Thermal energy will flow from a hot teapot to the cold cup. This flow of thermal energy is known as heat.
