Center of Mass | Center of Gravity | Difference between Center of Mass and Gravity, Example Problems

In this animated lecture I will teach you the concept of center of mass, center of gravity, center of mass examples, center of gravity examples, difference between center of mass and center of gravity, center of mass physics problems and center of gravity physics experiment. After watching this tutorial, you will also learn how to calculate center of mass and center of gravity with examples.

Q: What is center of mass?
Q: Explain center of mass with examples?
Q: What is center of mass in physics?
Ans: The easiest definition of center of mass is that " The point at which mass is equally distributed in all directions is called center of mass" or "The point at which whole mass of the body is concentrated is known as center of mass". One can say that center of mass is the point where whole mass of the body appears.
For example, the center of mass of disc is at center. The center of mass of humans is at their naval.

Q: What is center of gravity?
Q: What is center of gravity im physics?
Q: Explain center of gravity with examples?
Ans: Center of gravity is defined as "The point at which whole weight of an object appears to act in downward direction is called center of gravity". We know that weight is the force between the earth and any object. Due to which objects fall down.
As center of mass, weight of any object also acts at one single point, which is commonly known as center of gravity.
For example, center of gravity of square objects is at their geometric center.

Q: Difference between center of mass and center of gravity?
Q: What is the difference between center of mass and center of gravity?
Ans: Well, there is only one difference between center of mass and center of gravity. Usually center of mass and center of gravity appear to act at one single point in uniform gravitational field.
For example the center of mass and center of gravity of humans are at their naval.
But center of mass and center of gravity will not appear to act at one single point in non-uniform gravitational field. They will act to appear on different points.
For example, when you go to the space, then your center of mass and center of gravity will not appear to act at your naval. Rather, they will act at different points.
Thus, thus is the only difference between center of mass and center of gravity.

Q: How can you find centre of mass and center of gravity?
Q: How to find center of mass and center of gravity?
Ans: The center of mass and center of gravity of geometric shapes rigid objects are their respective geometric shapes.
For example, the center of circular objects like disc is considered to be their center of mass and center of gravity.

At the end of this lecture, I will also teach that how can you find center of mass and center of gravity of irregular objects or three dimensional objects. Secondly, you will also learn how to calculate problems of center of mass and center of gravity.
